Julie Barnes Yoga
As a little girl, I played sports and I danced. I loved movement. This childhood of activity ignited my lifelong study of the motivation and benefit of movement, and more broadly the study of human behaviour.
Today, this passion continues to be a large part of my life as I raise 3 sons, teach yoga and work towards completing 50 hikes before I turn 50!
As a school teacher with a BA in Sociology, a certified fitness instructor and Yoga teacher with over 600 hours of teacher training from Downward Dog in Toronto, Power Yoga Canada, the Baptiste Institute and The Yoga Detour, I am driven to be in a state of inquiry about human behaviour and how our bodies move. I incorporate all of my training and movement experience into my Yoga teaching.
Yoga is not about touching our toes or doing handstands (although I love inversions). Yoga is about feeling good in our bodies spiritually, physically and emotionally. The nature of Yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of our bodies. Yoga encourages us to be focused on the present moment, an awareness that grounds our spirit.
